    Sadr calls on followers to participate in the election and refuses to bring down Maliki's government

    Kurdish: No intention of the Kurdistan Alliance to withdraw confidence from the Maliki

    Higher demand for the dollar in CBI’s auction

    Demand for the dollar went up in the Central Bank of Iraq’s (CBI) auction on Thursday, registering at $221.86 million, compared to $213.715 million in the previous session.

    “The demand hit $25.36 million in cash, covered by the bank at an exchange rate of 1,177 Iraqi dinars, and $196.5 million in foreign transfers outside the country covered by the bank at an exchange rate of 1,174 Iraqi dinars per dollar, according to a CBI news bulletin received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

    None of the 12 banks that participated in today’s session offered to sell dollars.

    The Central Bank of Iraq runs a daily auction from Sunday to Thursday.

    2009 budget back to cabinet – MP

    Lawmaker Sami al-Attroshi on Thursday said that the federal budget of 2009 was returned to the Iraqi cabinet, as the Parliament is not authorized to increase it.

    “The Ministry of Finance demanded an increase to cover civil servants’ salaries,” Al-Attroshi, member of the parliament’s financial committee, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

    “The Presidential Board demanded to increase the social benefits by at least 50 percent,” he said.

    “The council of ministers should consider those demands,” he added.

    Zubeidi calls for strengthening banking relations between Iraq and Russia
