It is kind of funny, but last night I went out to an Italian restaurant that my wife and I love. We go there usually every week or two, just to enjoy ourselves. We always do because the food is excellent and we have gotten to know the manager a little and like him a lot. Last night the waiter was a real jerk to me. I happened to ask him to bring some items that I normally get with no problem from the waiter/waitress, but this guy disappears for half the meal and then when I politely remind him he cops an attitude. He proceeds to disappear without refiling our drinks for most of the meal, and without attending to any of our other needs. I had asked him to refill the bread one time and he replies that wow you guys eat a lot of bread, to which my wife jokingly replied "he ate most of it" and pointed to me. Well, the guy disappears again, and right before he brings the bill I asked him for the bread, to which he replies "I've never seen anyone eat so much bread... How can you eat three loaves".. Well, at this point I was beyond a pissed, but now this guy is an *****. He can't even remember that he has only brought one loaf the entire meal and then acts as if I have already eaten two more when the 2nd one he just brought is still siting on the table, and it is as we are about to leave. Now I know that this seems petty, but for the most part I tend to ignore petty people, but to be honest I had had a crappy day and for this little weasel to ruin the one enjoyable moment I was having was really grating on me. So, I felt I had to let him know that he was a real heal. As I usually tip fairly well, I left him a note that said...
Dear XXXX,
We usually tip well over 20% when we come here as we always have a good time since we enjoy the food, but seeing as you seem to prefer small portions I am leaving you the following small tip. Tell XXX the food was great as usual.
So yes it is easy to be petty, and sometimes it is warranted, but as good as it felt to take a shot at this punk, I would have rather just enjoyed my evening, sans attitude and any angry words.
