The countdown clock in both IE and FF is going up rather than going down. Is this right, eg I am showing 1:38 now.
Are you sure because I am showing 1hr 19
My countdown clock is currently showing 1:41, and the 41 is in the seconds column, but in changes every minute.

That is screen resolution, the applet is not fitting correctly in the window.
But it should not be going up because it uses a standard countdown Java-sys class and it is set to time zone 0 which is GMT.
The only time it goes up is when it is beyond the date and time specified.
Obviously something that I need to look at later.
