American Independence Day
I know it's hard for you
I guess that's the way it must be
It's kinda rough on me, too
but time is out now, don't you see?.........
Your light still lingers in our distant morning,
A star that we perceive across the void.
We chart our passage by your words, still burning
Long after your bright core has been destroyed.
No longer do we speak of "natural" rights,
Nor can we think that Reason guides our will.............
So once in every year we throng
Upon a day apart,
To praise the Lord with feast and song
In thankfulness of heart...........
Not that I always struck the proper mean
Of what mankind must give for what they gain,
But, when I think of those whom dull routine
And the pursuit of cheerless toil enchain,
Who from their desk-chairs seeing a summer cloud
Race through blue heaven on its joyful course .............
Our rural ancestors, with little blest,
Patient of labour when the end was rest,
Indulged the day that housed their annual grain,
With feasts, and off'rings, and a thankful strain............
I am the flag of the United States of America.
My name is Old Glory.
I fly atop the world's tallest buildings.
I stand watch in America's halls of justice.
I fly majestically over institutions of learning.
I stand guard with power in the world.
Look up ... and see me...........
The U.S. flag is a symbol
Of what Americans treasure;
It represents the values
We cherish beyond measure.........
If the heart could speak
what would it say
We try and tell of the feelings
that are deep within us from day to day
Love is a vast emotion
it can fill you up inside
it can rip you apart and leave you questioning Why?.........
