The Health Effects of Marijuana
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana. As more states make it legal, physicians are expressing concerns about the potential adverse health effects. I feel marijuana should be used responsibly. I think it should be restricted to people 18 years and older. Of course there should be sensible regulations and taxes. Driving while impaired should be a serious offense. But I feel the doctors calling out the dangers are hypocritical in the sense that our most dangerous drugs by factors of 10's(at least) are the legal ones. All "illegal drugs" COMBINED don't come anywhere near the morbidity and mortality associated with alcohol and tobacco. That includes heroin. If we were evaluating tobacco an alcohol, what would doctors say about them? I also believe readily available recreational cannabis would have a positive effect on the opiod epidemic. Marijuana is pretty available even now,I don't think there's going to be a HUGE increase in its usage after legalization. Maybe at first. Bottom line;the adverse health effects are over-stated especially compared to alcohol and tobacco.
