What is the best way to travel through Italy

Hi,
I are going on a 20 days vacation with my wife, on a budget, in September. We will probably fly into Milan and visit Rome and Sorrento before flying to Santorini, Greece and then back to Italy. I'm not sure what the most practical order is for visiting these cities and I also could use any other advice from experienced travelers as to when its better to use a train or a plane and any other money/time saving advice for Italy trips.

Flying to and Around Italy
