    Default The Hurricane Area

My thoughts and prayers are with all the people who had to go through this horrific hurricane. Barely lucky to be alive.

Now America (George Bush) needs to step up and create tents or mobile homes for all those people and place them in another state.

As hurricane season is not even over yet. All we need is another one to appear in the next few days and hit Florida.

The government does many things to help in America, but most help always comes from private charities.
We have opened shelters in Texas. The transfer of refugees from the Superdome in New Orleans to the Astrodome in Houston is getting most of the attention. However, we have opened Reunion Arena and some other shelters in the Dallas area. The students at SMU have opened their dorms and sports training facilities for students from Tulane University. Many other facilities being opened.
Now we try to cordinate where everyone is so that they can maybe locate other family members.
Truckloads of portable generators were sent to Louisiana even before the storm hit. Many other truckloads of various supplies left yesterday and more today. Teams of our electricians and plumbers are on their way to aid in restoring power and water. These don't get mentioned on the tv reports only the radio.

Here is yet another way to help. I know many of you have already made donations to the Red Cross and the Salvation Army, but living here in California, after sending in my donation, I just was not satisfied that I had done everything I could. I received an email about an effort coordinated by MoveOn.org to provide emergency housing to those left homeless by this disaster. Go to www.hurricanehousing.org for more information. If you know anyone who lives within 300 miles of the affected areas, email them and let them know about this website. At this site, people who want to help can offer a spare room, bed or couch to those who are in need, and those in need can search for housing offers by zip code. The site has an excellent FAQ section. I hope that you forward this information to everyone you know; you never know who might have family or friends that might be able to help those who have evacuated, but have no local family or friends that can house them. Bless you for helping!
