    Default Here's an odd thought..

Now call me completely unobservant but I've only just noticed that bar English Speakers only there appears to be an inordinate amount of Norwegians!!!???

Why Norwegians and not say Swedish or Spanish or anything else for that matter??

It's just a random observation but doesn't anyone else think that that is odd..?

I think lots of Norwegians joined Pips so that they could get enough money to buy some beer! I mean have you seen their beer prices?

Another very odd thought in connection with our Norwegian friends is that the ugly beasties with knobbly faces called trolls in their folk-lore should have been adopted as the internet term with which we are so familiar (alas!)

In Scandinavian myth, trolls are ugly, malicious creatures and the enemies of mankind. They are much bigger and stronger than humans, and leave their caves only after dark to hunt. If they are exposed to sunlight they will instantly turn to stone. Trolls are very fond of human flesh. In later myths they are roughly the size of humans or elves, and thought to be the owners of buried treasures. They are sometimes, although very rarely, portrayed as friendly, less ugly creatures.
    Can anyone suggest a connection?

Perhaps there is none and the internet variety comes from a different root. Is "trolling" a fishing term perhaps? Like "trawling"?

    Anyone care to enlighten me?

I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, but 'Trolls' was a word created by Hans Christian Anderson, although he must have had inspiration from elsewhere, they lived under bridges and demanded a 'toll' (payment) to cross the bridge according to the illustrations in HCAs books.

I think 'trolling' was created by us 8) 8)

My mom's adoptive mom was 100%, first gen Norwegian-American. I have a very soft spot in my heart for Norwegians specifically, and Scandihoovians in general. :)
Money for nothin, and your chicks for free ... okay, no free chicks but serious on the money front.
