Thumbs up Bridging The Generation Gaps In Your Cleaning Company

In today’s work place there is a new thing happening where there are four distinct generations that are working with each other. These four generations will often have clashes because of their generation gap which left unchecked could be bad for you cleaning business. The four generations have a very distinct attitudes and opinions with regard to how things should be done and how a business should work. This issue will affect you and your business from recruitment to problem solving and motivation of your cleaning company crew.

What better way to address this problem is by learning and understanding what motivates each generation and see how they view and put value to things in general.

The traditionalists or people born before 1946 are considered the post war generation. These individuals tend to be in nature extremely loyal to their employers which in return they expect the same thing. They are not fortunate enough to grow up with the same comforts and material wealth we grew up with. There is a tendency to be frugal as well and when it comes to work they are very particular in coming to work on time and take orders very well. There is also much respect for their elders involved with the traditionalists.

The Baby Boomers were born somewhere between 1946 and 1964 and they comprise much of the current workforce today. They are the offspring of the traditionalist and had few toys or nice clothes. They are the generation who vowed to provide everything they never had to their children and want their children to not experience what they went through. This generation had to grow up earning their allowance and knows the principle of the need to work hard to earn.

The Generation X or better on as the Gen Xers were born between 1965 and 1980 and they are the offspring’s of the Baby Boomers. This group grew up in the environment where both their parents were working and experienced their parents would often be laid off or are unhappy with their employment. This group focused more on being able to be at home more and their jobs as a second priority. They would prefer working 4 days a week and have flexible hours.

Generation Y or the Next Generation were born between 1981 and 1999 and they are the most current addition to the workforce. This generation has the reputation of being very creative and they prefer employment where their creative skills can be put to use and have flexible hours as well. They require not just a decent paycheck but would also want to receive incentives for their job from their employees.

Now, understanding these generations will allow you to know how to treat each one of them and possibly how to bridge their gaps. You need to find ways that they can contribute to each other’s work instead of being in each other’s throats. Just learn to provide incentives that are applicable to each generation or to all of them and you should be able to bridge the gap.
