When we are at home, there are three very important areas that we spend most of our time in; these are the kitchen, the bathroom, and the bedroom. Of these three, it is most likely the bedroom that tops the rank. Sometimes, when we are very tired, we even forego eating on the dining table and bring our meals to our bed instead!

Things like this can create a very difficult situation; we accidentally spill food or drinks onto our beds and this makes cleaning the mattress a very important task. Not only that, there are various activities that we do on the bed – we read, we work on our ******s, we watch ********** while lying down, and when we are sick, we of course stay in bed. While most stains come from food and beverages, there are also rare occurrences that the mattress gets stained with urine or vomit.

How do we clean the mattress so that we avoid permanently ruining or damaging it?

* If the spill is liquid, you need to blot the spill right away. This is to avoid the liquid from seeping into the mattress, making cleaning more tedious. In blotting, you need to use a very absorbent material so that you get as much of the liquid as possible. Instead of using a paper towel or any ordinary cloth, get a surgical huck towel. These huck towels can absorb more than any other material available. In fact, they can absorb up to four times the amount of liquid than the weight the towels have.

* Surgical huck towels are known in the medical profession as the best and handiest cleaning material. They are manufactured with the highest quality materials and are known to be strong and durable. Even if you purchase used surgical huck towels, you are certain that their ability to clean is uncompromised.

* While holding the surgical huck towel, press into the spill with all of your weight to get the most liquid. Rubbing the spill vigorously will not do you any good. You will need to keep on blotting the spill until the area is only slightly wet.

* The next step is to get a cleaning solution that is appropriate to the material of your mattress and to the nature of the liquid that was spilled. Enzymatic solutions like vinegar and cold water, mixed one part to one part, are best for organic stuff like fruit extracts. You can also find cleaning solutions for organic spill in cleaning supplies stores or even your preferred grocery store. They are not expensive; you can even use ordinary upholstery cleaners that can be bought in aerosol cans.

* When using cleaning solutions, you will want to spray, and not pour, onto the area that was soiled. All cleaning solutions include instructions on its labels and you should be careful to follow that. Pouring the cleaning solution would only aggravate your spill problem. Most cleaners have a strong smell and other chemical components that can cause allergic reactions; if you use that on the bed and it is not properly removed or dried, you might just suffer from these reactions.

* You will need to move the aerosol can about eight inches away from the spot or the spill and then spray lightly. Afterwards, you will need a clean surgical huck towel to again blot the cleaner until the area is just a bit damp. Baking soda, an all purpose cleaner and odor-remover can then be sprinkled on the area. This allows absorption of the remaining liquid and the elimination of any odor from the original spill and the smell of the cleaning solution you used.
