This is Howard, I contacted and ordered from Ali this evening since I could not get any from B of A or the high bids on ebay. He was both polite and accomodative. I locked in the price of $100 per million VND, which will be delivered via Fed Exp on May 1st or 2nd, via COD.
I tell you, you cannot get better simplified service than that! I just cannot wait to get them! They will be in 10,000 and 20,000 notes. Ali is great! Now I just need to wait to get them.
Thanks DinarTrade-Ali!

Dollar Deposits Yield Great Return
Friday, May 18, 2007 9:46 AM GMT+7Commercial banks are increasing the interest rates they're paying on deposits of US dollars (USD) but at the same time they're planning to lower interest rates on deposits in Vietnamese dong (VND). It's being said that the interest rates are being changed to meet the demand.
In mid-March 2007, commercial joint stock banks first increased the interest paid on USD deposits. The Technological and Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Techcombank) increased the rate of interest it paid on USD deposits 0.05 to 0.2 percent a year. Now, for demand deposit accounts, Techcombank pays 1.30 percent to 1.50 percent interest. The annual interest rates on two and three-month deposits increased from 0.10 percent and 0.15 percent to 4.15 and 4.30 percent respectively.
The Asia Commercial Joint Stock Bank (ACB) also raised the interest it pays on 1-9 month USD deposits by 0.05-0.15 percent. That was the second time ACB raised the interest it pays on USD deposits in the last four months.
The Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) - Ho Chi Minh City Branch is issuing certificates of deposit in USD until June 11. For certificates of deposit of less than US$15,000, the annual interest paid is 4.4 percent (on three-month deposits) and 4.7 percent (on six-month deposits). On certificates of deposit of more than US$15,000, the bank will pay an annual interest of 4.45 percent (on three-month deposits) and 4.75 percent (on six-month deposits).
The average annual interest rate on USD deposits is now between 5 and 5.05 percent (on 12-month deposits) and 5.25 percent (on 24-month deposits). The difference between interest rates paid in Vietnam and those specified by the US Federal Reserves (FED) has been reduced.
Most Vietnamese commercial banks said that they increased the rate of interest they'll pay on USD deposits to attract USD that they can in turn loan out to companies that have to pay for imports in USD. At the moment, most domestic banks are short the USD they need to satisfy the demand - and they cannot get what they need from the inter-bank market, a Techcombank representative stated.
Interest rates on VND deposits fall
The average annual interest rate on
USD deposits is now between 5
and 5.05 percentVietnamese commercial banks plan to lower the rate of interest they will pay on VND deposits. Members of the Vietnam Banking Association (VNBA) agreed to reduce the interest rates on deposits in VND in the near future.
Specifically, the maximum monthly interest rate paid on VND deposits at State-owned commercial banks is to be 0.6 percent (on three-month deposits), 0.63 percent (on six-month deposits), 0.65 percent (on nine-month deposits) and 0.69 percent (on 12-month deposits).
Explaining why they want to lower the interest rates on deposits in VND, a head of a State-owned commercial bank said that for more than a year now the amount of dong on hand at most domestic banks has been increasing. Meanwhile, the demand for loans in dong has been falling. By lowering the interest rates the bank pays on VND deposits the bank will indirectly reduce their dong holdings. The bank official also said that four State-owned commercial banks have met to discuss just when they should reduce the interest rates on VND deposits.
The head of the credit department of one bank said, "We have a surplus of ready capital in dong here at the bank because both domestic and foreign investors are keeping money in bank accounts, waiting for a good investment opportunity." Most joint stock companies have been selling large amounts of shares to raise capital, and they plan to continue issuing more shares. This capital they obtain through share sales, all of it in dong, it right now sitting in the banks. They want more USD, not VND, hence the increasing interest paid on USD and the drop in interest paid on VND.
