Everything Starts at home. It is just the cost and sacrafice it takes to achieve most of this convienances. Yes it is hard, I am very quilty of not doing them myself. When our Boat comes in, you will see a different neno. It is just sad I use the term "when our boat come in", in order to do it.
The upfront cost of going Green is just so high for the average person in my Opinion. Sure in time it will all come down. But again it all Starts at home with us Individualy.
At the DayJob, we just can never figure who is buying all these Automobiles. I mean we can clean the rail yards up in our area in a week, of lets say, 5000 vehicles. then the very next Monday here we go again (for 20 years). My area just covers about 200 mile ratios of Dallas/Ftw and these vehicles are not cheap. Heck a fully loaded Navigator will cost around $60,000.00+ and a Nice 3/4 tom Ford truck with the bells and whistles is another $50,000.00+, and the reason is, aslong as people keep buying them, they will continue to keep putting them out.

heres a thought on the automobiles post. Here in california Arnold just made it illegal for stores to use the plastic grocery bags because they are not in his opinion biodegradable or recyclable, yet how many years does it take to grow one tree big enoug to make paper sacks? And yet has a multitude of vehicles that he drives daily that average less than 15mpg.
There are a few things we can do, it does not have to be all or nothing. If you want to keep your SUV , do it but switch out your light bulbs to those curly CFG bulbs that will make such a diff. or plant a tree or donate the cost of a tree to some ecological society We do have choices and there is time

Hemp
A study of the hemp industry will show that it is a very viable alternative to petrocemicals, in addition to being a very economical replacement of lumber for paper, cotton for fabric, rope, salad oils, pharmacueticals, etc.
Hemp oil is consumable (very high omega3), medicinal, it helps with Parkinsons, MS, cancer, cataracts and other illness and hemp can be used for a vast array of other products.
Henry Ford designed the original Model T to run on fuel made from hemp.
The government used to encourage growing this crop..it can grow almost anywhere (including in the snow) and replenishes itself, being basically a weed.
It was the lumber industry that lobbied to make hemp illegal, because it would have ruined the profits for them, so they included it in the bill for making a strong stand against "hard" *****.

I think plastic is a huge part of our oil consumption - look around your house and see how many of your things are made in whole, or in part, of plastic. Starting with the computer you're sitting at, the speakers and printer, your TV, your phones, garbage "cans", drink bottles, soap trays, shoes, belts, purses, luggage, packaging material, toys, baby carriers, air filters, mops, dishracks, the vapour barriers in your walls...
How many houses in the world have all these things and more? How many diapers are used each day? How many pill bottles, even vitamins, minerals, and herbs? Shampoo, dish soap, plastic bowls and dishes, measuring cups, pens, eyeglasses.. the list is mind-boggling! The changes required in our lives to give up oil are truly prohibitive. I can't even imagine!Jean
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world. The unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man. (George Bernard Shaw)
