    Smile Smart Spending

The other night, my husband and I were sitting on our patio having a cocktail, and dreaming of how our life will be post rv. When all of a sudden, my husband (who is typically EXTREMELY financially responsible) starts spouting off all of the things he WILL buy!! I panicked and have been printing out articles to scare him to death. LOL I no longer have the fear that my husband will buy an airplane and a bomb shelter (lol, must have been the cocktails ), but I started worrying about some here on Rol.

I know this subject has been talked about a lot of times......but, I think it is so important that it should be brought back up! Here is something I found to be interesting...

These sad-but-true tales are not uncommon, say the experts.

"For many people, sudden money can cause disaster," says Susan Bradley, a certified financial planner in Palm Beach, Fla., and founder of the Sudden Money Institute, a resource center for new money recipients and their advisors.

"In our culture, there is a widely held belief that money solves problems. People think if they had more money, their troubles would be over. When a family receives sudden money, they frequently learn that money can cause as many problems as it solves," she says.

Craig Wallace, a senior funding officer for a company that buys lottery annuity payments in exchange for lump sums, agrees.

"Going broke is a common malady, particularly with the smaller winners. Say you've won $1 million. What you've really won is a promise to be paid $50,000 a year. People win and they think they're millionaires. They go out and buy houses and cars and before they know it, they're in way over their heads," he says.

    Cool Thanks For Caring...

People do need to understand this and realise when it does happen for them that they will be mentally prepared. I know for a FACT when the other Monday when we all got that safedinar email and thought hummmm. I was on the other end with Chase and for the first time it hit me. Hands were shaken like a leaf in a Texas Tornado. That was the fist time I realised that "Sudden Wealth" is Scarey... I am ready now....

    Thank Mellisa for sharing.

ROFLMAO!! I will admit that I am not the world's most "money smart" person. note: just spent weekend in Vegas...and lost lol! However, I think men in general have very little concept as to how much daily life costs. My husband recently accompanied me to Super Target (something I suggest no woman should ever do ) and I took the kids to the car and let him check out. He looked pasty white and said OMG...do you know we spent over $400.00!?!?!? LOL, I was thinking..uh, yeah and we only have half of what we need!! lol

We will have to compare our husbands' home plans.....our home is going to have a bomb shelter and a back-up generator....among a million other safety deals!! lol

My bride and myself have set down and had long talkes about what to do if and when it does happen. It is sort of scary. We are kind of lucky because we have a friend that has a ton of money and he has been giving us some advice.

Mom2two, I use to dream of the things i would do , Now it has been so much dreaming, for the last 8 months, that i don't think it will faze me too much to see the RV . I am so far behind in payments abnd expenses that once i see that "November to Remember" fulfilled I will calmly drive to the nearest bank and cash in like a normal payday. ythen go out side the bank with the green or credit slip, and Scream at the top of my lungs ---FINALLY IT HAS COME TRUE!!!!! and DO a couple of WHOOTS. and continue on with my dream life fulfilled. LOL I'll still work all the Programs I can Just to stay busy. BOB19140

Default Question for coming into big money?

When the RV comes about one of the first things I will do is give 10% to the church or other charities. My understanding is that it will be better to give the charities the dinar directly as being a charitable organization, no taxes will be paid and and the organization will realize more real dollars out of the deal.
