Simple, BOTH, a combination approach to marketing is what works most effectively in my experience. We hear the terms MLM and many are turned off, so why lose a customer just because they do not have the proper knowledge of industry. Most immediately think ponzi or pyramid as so many have been burned in MLM industry, false hopes, get rich quick, attacks by media and regulators, so everyone has a negative feeling on MLM from my experience no matter how great the products or services you offer are. Rejection is a killer for the home based entrepreneur, so why create a big obstacle that most newbies can not get past.

What I have seen trending is MLM companies who offer both, a direct sale opportunity as well as one designed with the residual income of MLM as a different approach which is hidden from plain site.
