Bridle Your Tongue

Prov 18:21a Death and life are in the power of the tongue. The single most important weapon
that a believer has at his disposal is the TONGUE! Your tongue is your #1 weapon against the devil
just as surely as an M-16 rifle is the #1 weapon of a soldier in the army. It is always loaded and it
ALWAYS produces results. You cannot turn its power off and on at will. Your tongues is ALWAYS
working either for you, or against you. What you SAY will ALWAYS have an effect on you and the
people you talk about. ALWAYS! This knowledge is not born in us. Most people think that it really
makes no difference what they say. The truth is, however, YOU WILL NEVER RISE ABOVE
YOUR CONFESSION! The apostle James said it like this: James 1:26 If any man among you
seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's
religion is vain. The Greek word translated “vain” in that verse means “PROFITLESS!” If you
don’t learn to become expert at bridling your tongue, your Christianity will profit you nothing in this
life. You can go to heaven when you die, but you will not live an overcoming life now! To think that
you are going to conquer your enemy without bridling your tongue would be like an American soldier
in WWII thinking that he could conquer Hitler’s armies without a weapon. Imagine an American
soldier throwing down his rifle and simply walking up to the enemy line thinking that the enemy would
surrender simply because he was an American. The enemy would have laughed as they shot him to
death and he would have been the butt of their jokes at their campfires that night. Most Christians are
even more foolish than that soldier because they haven’t thrown down their weapon [their tongue], but
are using it AGAINST THEMSELVES AND THEIR FELLOW SOLDIERS! Every time you speak
opposite to the Word of God concerning yourself, you shoot yourself in the foot and your enemy
laughs! Every time you speak against your brother or sister you are shooting them in the foot and
your enemy laughs. To the enemy, Christians are like an army of amateur soldiers who were never
trained in the use of their weapons. They watch with glee as we bad mouth ourselves, gossip about
others, slander others, and speak judgment on others. In the spirit realm, demons sit back with glee as
they watch us run around shooting ourselves and our fellow soldiers. And the biggest belly-laugh of
all is when they watch us operate like that and then hear us say, “Why doesn’t God bless me?” The
demons roll with laughter and say, “What FOOLS!” Christian, I hope that makes you mad! Fighting
mad! Mad enough to once and for all decide that you are going to bridle your tongue with the Word
of God! Make the decision today to begin scheduling time to do nothing but CONFESS THE WORD
OF GOD! Become expert by practice in using your tongue in exactly the same way that a soldier
becomes an expert marksman by practicing with an M-16 rifle. Get out on the target range and
practice by spending hours doing nothing but SPEAKING GOD’S WORD! OVER AND OVER
AND OVER UNTIL YOU BECOME EXPERT AT IT!
Notice that the apostle James says there is a connection between the tongue and the heart! Speaking
contrary to God’s Word causes a person’s heart to be deceived! The opposite is also true. Speaking
in agreement with God’s Word causes a person’s heart to be filled with TRUTH! As you spend time,
on purpose, SPEAKING God’s Word you are driving deception from your heart and at the same time
you are filling your heart with the TRUTH! That’s why Jesus said, Luke 6:45 A good man out of
the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil
treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his
mouth speaketh. The Greek word translated “treasure” in that verse means “deposit.” Every time
you speak God’s Word you are making a “deposit” of TRUTH into your heart. A heart full of
deception will always produce “evil things” when the tongue speaks. When TRUTH is in your heart in
abundance, when you speak, you will bring forth “good things.” BEGIN DEPOSITING TRUTH!

DEMONS RUN FOR COVER WHEN I SPEAK!
I AM SKILLED IN THE HANDLING OF THE WORD OF RIGHTEOUSNESS! (Heb 5:13)
I WILL NOT TOLERATE GOSSIP. I WILL NOT SPEAK IT. I WILL NOT HEAR IT.
I WILL NOT TOLERATE SLANDER. I WILL NOT SPEAK IT. I WILL NOT HEAR IT.
I WILL NOT TOLERATE LIES. I WILL NOT SPEAK THEM. I WILL NOT HEAR THEM.
I “GO” FROM THEM THAT SPEAK EVIL. THEY ARE TRYING TO SHOOT ME IN THE
FOOT. I WOULD RATHER BE “RUDE” THAN SHOT!
MY WORDS BRING DEATH OR LIFE TO ME EVERY TIME I SPEAK!
I BRIDLE MY TONGUE WITH THE WORD OF GOD...ON PURPOSE!
I SPEND TIME BRIDLING MY TONGUE WITH THE WORD OF GOD...ON PURPOSE!
I SPEND TIME ON THE TARGET FIELD “PRACTICING” MY SKILL WITH WORDS!
I MAKE DEPOSITS OF TRUTH IN MY HEART BY SPEAKING GOD’S WORD!
DECEPTION LEAVES MY HEART AS I SPEAK GOD’S WORD!
TRUTH FILLS MY HEART AS I SPEAK GOD’S WORD!
TARGET YOUR ENEMY BECAUSE EVERY WORD YOU SPEAK IS A SHOT FIRED!


Prov 4:24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
Prov 5:1-2 My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding: That thou
mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
Prov 8:5-11 O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart. Hear;

THE LIPS, AND THE BLESSING OF THE LORD THAT MAKETH RICH WITH NO SORROW!]
Prov 12:13 The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of
trouble. [BY THE OBEDIENCE OF HIS LIPS!]
Prov 12:22 Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.
Prov 13:3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have
destruction.
Prov 14:3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride [THE PROUD THINK THAT THEY CAN
SPEAK ANYTHING THEY WANT OUT OF THEIR MOUTH.]: but the lips of the wise shall
preserve them. [THE WISE BRIDLE THEIR TONGUE WITH THE WORD OF GOD!]
Prov 14:7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of
knowledge. [YOUR EARS ARE NOT TRASH CANS. DON’T LISTEN TO GOSSIP. IF THEY
WON’T STOP SPEAKING IT, SIMPLY WALK AWAY. “GO FROM THEM.”]
Prov 16:13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right. [JESUS,
YOUR KING, LOVES TO HEAR YOU SPEAKING “RIGHT” THINGS.]
Prov 16:27 An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire. [YOU ARE
WORKING FOR THE ENEMY, DIGGING UP EVIL, WHEN YOU SPEAK GOSSIP AND
SLANDER AGAINST YOUR NEIGHBOR. UNGODLY = AGAINST GOD.]
Prov 18:7 A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
