Default E-Gold account hacked

Hi,

My EGold account has been hacked too. Lost $350,-. I do'nt understand how they did it. I had all the precautions. EGold is'nt helpfull at all. I can give them the acoountnumber(s) of the thief. They simply do not react on my mails or give me standard answers.
However I still need an Egold account. What do I have to do to clean up my computer? I run several Spy and virus programs, nothing found. Can I use the same account again after changing the password? Hope there is somebody with experience who can help me?

Thax in adv, Erik

If you get your machine clean and change the password, theres no issue with reusing the old account. The safest way to get the machine clean is to reinstall from CD ensuring you remove the partition and start again. You might want to backup the files you want to keep first. A more radical solution is to install Linux on it either as a dual boot with windows or on its own. The chances of it contracting anything running a new version of Linux are between zero and very remote. Ubuntu Home Page | Ubuntu is a good place to start. Installing it as dual boot and always ensuring you access e-gold from the linux side, means the Windows half can stay as is. A windows virus/trojan will have no effect on Linux. You can even run Ubuntu directly from the CD without touching windows at all, but it can be slow like this.

It gets really annoying when people complain that their egold account was hacked, when it was they themselves that got hacked. Anyone who uses a windows machine for financial operations, especially one that is also used for web surfing and email, needs to be taken out back and shot. ;)
Install linux, and use it. Only dual boot back to windows for things that absolutely cannot be done with Linux which these days is pretty much limited to some games and high end audio production software. I have windows on one of my machines just for games. Everything else I can do with linux.

My acct was hacked 2yrs back. Egold cant do anything unless you wish to engage a lawyer to take your case. 1 thing for sure, you might have accidentally click on some link and planted a Trojan on your PC. I have learned my lesson. I once click a link which is unknown to me as I want to know what is all about. After that I login to my egold acct, next day login again and all the funds have been transferred out. Report to egold on the hacker acct and what they can do is to block the hacker acct. Nothing more they can do for you.

You have to change back to the default settings recommended by egold and the password. Put a strong password and you have to remember it. In future anything you are not sure about the email link, don ever click it. When you need to login, always type the full address instead of the shortcut link as you wont know whether it has been infected and link have been changed.

The exact same thing happened to me 1 year ago, when my ****** was at service and i had to borrow one from them. It was not as good protected as my own. Must have clicked a link, and it installed a keylogger on that pc.
After this incident i stopped using IE browser.FF became my choice for a while, until i also installed Linux on my PC for logging into the currency accounts.

Still i would advice all to:

1.Install a good Anti-virus protection = Like kaspersky.
2.Clean there ****** often for virus, trojans and also Spyware.
3.do not type inn the passw when you login to currency account's. Rather 4.copy paste it inn to that field so that they keyloger cant detect your password.
5.Setup egold account this way that if it detects changes in IP, a pin get's emailed to your email account.
6. NEVER CLICK LINKS IN EMAIL YOU DON't know about.

Regards
