I'm unsure about the safety of these browsers. Both are cool, but now they become more and more populars in hackers' attacks.
Opera is less popular than Firefox, but in Russia Firefox is more popular. I think there are much more attacks from Russian hackers, so if I choose Opera - would it be safer?
I used IE browser 2 months ago, and witnessed the loss of 2000 usd from my friends account in e-gold. I stopped using IE when i saw that.
May be somebody can advice another, less popular browser?
Thanks.
The browser is only as safe as the person using it.
Each of these popular browsers has their own pros and cons.
Personally, i prefer IE for it's simplicity, Firefox for its functionalities/features, Opera for its slick interface and relatively faster loading of web pages.
Firefox has one issue which i dislike a lot.. it tends to hog a lots of memory.
The choice between the two is just a matter of taste. The security issues are more often than not, windows related rather than the fault of the browser. That said, IE being so intrinsically tied to the OS, it becomes a real threat with the ability to have some really nasty code run automatically with accelerated privileges. The same code would more likely have firefox or opera complaining about not having the right plugin installed.
My personal choice is Firefox. I do most of my browsing from linux instead of windows for extra safety too. I'm posting from vista/firefox at the moment as my work ****** is dead but thats another story ;)
As for the memory issue I find firefox and IE relatively equal in hogging precious chippage. I tested the same webpages in the same amount of tabs in Firefox 2.0 and IE 7 and it was almost a dead heat. Haven't done that with opera but I don't use that much.
Firefox wins because of the wealth of plugins available and if I really have to use IE for a page, there is always IE-Tab to the rescue :D
I don't like Opera because it has bad compatibility with many chats and forums engines, so I prefer to use FireFox, and some times IE. (I use IEview extension for FF, if I need to open page with IE engine)
Definitely FireFox ... the extensions are the clincher!

I agree with the other posts. Security is more a matter of the user following good security procedures than the browser used. Firefox is a winner for me because you can customize it as little or as much as you like including making it ******** on a usb drive.
I personally use both firefox and opera. I use opera for faster browsing and firefox for secure browsing. Any browser which is against internet explorer is okay for me by the way. But to choose among the two, i would choose opera.
It depends.
Opera is better if you just want a browser.
But FireFox is better if you want to add extensions etc. I use FF with the "NoScript" extension which makes it really safe.
I agree with domingo. Opera is better as a browser only. But when you need customization and features, Firefox wins hands down because of the tons of extensions available.
In fact, some extensions are so indispensable, I can't imagine browsing without them. So it's Firefox for me.
