Amalgam. Using amalgam for dental fillings has not been allowed in Sweden for quite some time. Pros is that it is a time tested method, requires low skill for working, and statistically the fillings will stay in place a tad bit longer on average compared to other materials. Cons is that you need to remove a lot of tooth substance to get the amalgam to stay put because there is no chemical bonding to the teeth... and it looks nothing at all as a tooth. Also the strain on the environment is not so nice.Maybe for a crown but doing a gold filling seems not so likely these days. It's an easily worked metal and, like amalgam, requires that you remove a lot of tooth substance to actually get it to lock in place. And also it looks nothing like a tooth.Resins are generally plastic polymere materials... Pure resins are not very common at all. They're generally mixed up with silicate and other things to produce composites.
