To avoid being kidnapped for ransom, what type of security detail do Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Warren Buffett, Sergey Brin, and Larry Page move around with?

First of all, you have to realize that sophisticated criminals do not try to kidnap Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg for ransom. It's much harder to get a $1 billion ransom for a guy who is buddies with most heads-of-state than it is to get 200 $5 million ransoms by snatching Palm Beach mortgage brokers or 20,000 $50,000 ransoms kidnapping vacationers for a few hours.

So, the people who would try to kidnap a famous billionaire are either *****s who get into a gambling debt and think of a boneheaded scheme, corporate criminals who want to incapacitate a competitor, or highly sophisticated state-level actors who would want access to the power, not the money, of a Gates or Zuckerberg. Thankfully, the habit of kidnapping or assassinating business competitors is virtually nonexistent at the Fortune 500 level, although quite common in other countries and among lower-level businesses like check cashers or drug dealers.

And while a state-level actor who could make a credible threat to Mark Zuckerberg痴 family might be able to pressure him into tilting Facebook痴 news algorithm in one direction or another to swing an election, I haven't heard about such a thing happening, although by its nature it would be kept secret. That might make an interesting movie though.

The much more common risk that famous billionaires face is assault and battery. As other answers have pointed out, even well-meaning crowds can get physically dangerous. Second, all famous people are assault targets simply for their fame, like John Lennon. Finally, a disgruntled user who, say, had his girlfriend dump him for a guy she met on Facebook might translate this into a personal vendetta against Mark Zuckerberg. The other answers explain the security measures taken to protect against these threats.
