    Talking Proper Pronunciation....

    Hey all!

I thought it would be nice to know the PROPER pronunciation of Dinar!

There are 2 different ways that I can think of...

Din-AR -- ARE you coming along?

Din-AR -- He is the HEIR to the throne.

I just want to be educated so that when I phone the banks to set up an appointment to exchange a portion I sound sophisticated.

I am pretty certain that it isn't pronounced...

Din-AR -- Hey! Wanna come over for dinner?

Fire away...I feel some jokes coming on...but I would like the actual answer at some point!

    Tiffany :-)

I have a friend who is Iraqi by birth and he pronounces 'dee-nar'.

Well, I'm not a native English speaking person...but I am a linguist! And for me it has always been natural to say it like in your first example, like "are". Which is also like investor's friend says it. (just that you separated the syllables differently)
Haha, on keyboard I have to write pronounciation with normal letters! Don't know how to write the phonetic alphabet here - IRL I could write the pronounciation!

Hm... I got a bit unsecure - since I am almost telling you how it's said... and don't really speak English! ... so I looked it up in my pronounciation diccionary - but that word wasn't in it!!!:

    Anyway, that's what I THINK!
    Karin

Ps. Because of the spelling...right now (but I'm sure their are some) I can't remember one single word that is pronounced like "heir" but with only an "a", without any other vowels...

Zubaidi:Monetary value of the Iraqi dinar must revert to the previous level, or at least to acceptable levels as it is in the Iraqi neighboring states.

Shabibi:The bank wants as a means to affect the economic and monetary policy by making the dinar a valuable and powerful.
