Thread: We need info and suggestions...

(Actually I was going to post in in the "general chat" but can't find it now? So I post it here among dinar friends! )

Anyway, the situation is this:
My oldest daughter is applying for an exchange program with the university; to study in the USA for one semester. She has her nr.1 choice already picked out but need to have alternatives.

She wants to go somewhere where the climate is good (= warm! ) but not TOO hot... She wants to get away from the Swedish winter, and her first choice is a university in California; partly because of the weather but mostly because they seem to have a very good drama education (she is majoring in Economics and Drama - strange combination, huh?! Actually it's not a combination but two separate educations)

Gee, I'm rambling... Anyway, she needs more alternatives, and there are universities in the exchange program in Alabama, Arizona and Texas. Which one has the nicest weather?
(there is one in Lafayette, Indiana, also which would have been kind of fun since I was there (in Indiana)as an exchange student many years ago...But when she heard that it snows there it wasn't so interesting anymore )

So people, please give her advice and opinions! The more the better!

I can speak for Houston, Texas.

As far as weather, we have:

"pheew it's hot"
"ouch, the seat is hot, hot, hot"
and..
"what's that breeze? Was that winter?"

Can't go wrong in Texas, I would stay away from west Texas, but east/south east, is great.

In austin the summers are hot and the winters are like several days cold and then several days warm and barely have winters with snow. There are alot of exchange students here, especially from asia. If i could choose a place in texas, I would choose Dallas. The people are friendly and the weather is nice. It snows there but not that bad..only several inches and it never last to long before the sun is out to melt the snow.

east and south east is way to hot. I do not recommend this unless you are willing to take the extreme heat. Nice place to visit though. I agree that west texas is not a very good spot so central and north texas is best IMO.

My daughter is in her first year at the academy of art university in San Francisco and she loves it there, the climate is great, I just talked to her tonight and while it is cold windy and stormy here in the "Seattle area where I am it is warm and nice in San Francisco. I wish i was down there myself.

yeah, the cost of living in cali is WAY more expensive then Texas..may want to consider this as well.

i think considering what her interests are and which schools in those areas offer excellent programs in that field would be the way to go. choose a university over just a state to live in, the benefits will be worth it.
