    Talking Little India of Penang

    Hi all,

It is counting down to Deepavali and the streets of Little India comes alive with traders and roadside stalls selling a variety of goods from sweetmeats to saris. The smell of incense permeate the air as the sounds of the latest Bollywood hits blares in the background. Feel free to wonder around the many stores and stall for anything Indian and drop by for a taste of Indian food at a roadside stall.

If you enjoy reading about Penang and would like me to continue, drop me a PM or put a little comment. If you want any of the photos, it's available for US$0.50 for one. I accept Paypal and Liberty Reserve.

    Cheers.

Talking A must try if you drop by Penang

    Hi all,

Many of you mayhave had or seen a chinese "steamboat" before, which is basically cooking raw food by dipping it into boiling stock. Lok-lok is similar to this but the food is in the form of skewers and you dip it in boiling water instead. The food must then be dipped into the sauces available to bring out the aroma and flavor. One can rack up a huge bill if not careful. Certain items like prawns can be expensive. So check the price thru the color code.

Looks yummy? Time to book a guided tour with me. I know where they have the best Lok-lok and other tasty treats! Just drop me a PM.

Talking Dim Sum - The Perfect Breakfast

    Hi again,

Dim Sum is famous in Hong Kong, the Cantonese have made this cuisine into a culture and an art form. Intricate pieces created from 'won ton' and seasoned minced meat skin together with steamed buns make the perfect accompaniment for Chinese tea. There are also a range of 'friedy' things like mince prawn wrapped in beancurd skin, spare ribs, spring rolls and baked buns.

A simple meal of 3 baskets of tasty treats and tea comes to about US$3 for a normal dim sum restaurant in Penang. In a high-class restaurant, you are expected to fork out US$15. What's the difference, you ask? The ambiance for one and better quality some say. You are also paying for the chef's skill, I might add. For me and my family, I know where its good and cheap. The best of both worlds.

What are you waiting for? The yummy treats are calling to you!

    PM me, I'll be waiting.

Talking Ideas on what to do

    Hi all,

In Penang, you'll have a endless list of activities to do. Here are some ideas.

    1. Visit Historical Landmarks and Buildings, Musuems
    2. Visit the famous Buddhist and Chinese Temples
    3. Go on a food hunt, all over the island
    4. A day at the beaches, followed by an evening dining in Penang's best restaurants.
    5. Traverse the streets of Penang.
    6. Go Eco, a trip to the Botanical Gardens or the Forestry Reserve or Butterfly Farm
    7. Feeling Fruity or Spicy? Tropical Fruit Farms and Spice Garden await you.
    8. Dine Al-Fresco in Gurney Drive, Penang's top hawker spot.
    9. Go Penang Hill (temporary stopped)
    10. Go to Mainland across the Straits of Melaka

Hope that gets your interest fired up. I welcome any inquiries that you may have. I'll do my best to answer them.

    Cheers.

    Talking 400 hits...going on 4000!

    Hi,

Somebody must be reading, I think I've not clicked in 400 times. And contrary to what you think, NO I didn't cajole my mum into view it. Someone is taking the trouble to read my stuff. That motivates me to put out another piece. Those who subscribe, that would be relatives? NO. Lol. For those who subscribe you will get the new highlights first.

Penang is a haven for food. I'm always going on about how good Penang food is and how lucky I am to be here. Today's culinary experience is Banana Leaf Rice. Although it is name that we don't actually eat the leaf. It's used as a plate.

The scene pictured above is from a stall at a famous food haunt.

    Cheers.

SHANGHAI: Malaysia garnered another industry accolade when it was voted the best leisure short-haul destination by the Travel Weekly publication.

The award was received by Tourism Malaysia's international marketing director for Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia Chong Yoke Har at a dinner ceremony here on Tuesday before China's biggest industry show, the China International Travel Mart, opens here today.

Malaysia, Thailand and Hong Kong were the three shortlisted for the leisure short-haul market accolade, one of 47 awards presented by the magazine. A total of 600,000 votes were received for the awards. -- Bernama
