Producer Price Index

Investors got the news they were looking for today when the producer price index reports came in double what economists were expecting, along with retail sales which also rose. (read more at Millennium-Traders.Com)

Economic data released today:

Redbook:
U.S. Retail Sales fell 1.9% in week ending September 12 versus September a year ago; U.S. Retail Sales First 2 Weeks of September fell 2.1% versus September a year ago; U.S. Retail Sales First 2 Weeks of September rose 0.5% versus August.

PPI (Producer Price Index):
U.S. August Producer Prices rose 1.7% compared to consensus of an increase by 1.0%; U.S. August PPI Excluding-Food & Energy rose 0.2% compared to consensus of an increase by 0.1%; U.S. August PPI Intermediate Goods rose 1.8%; Core goods rose 0.6%; U.S. August PPI Crude Goods rose 3.8%; Core goods rose 6.0%; U.S. August PPI Energy Prices rose 8.0%; U.S. August Passenger Car Prices rose 0.7%; U.S. July PPI Unrevised at a decrease of 0.9%.

Retail Sales:
U.S. August Retail & Food Sales rose 2.7% compared to consensus of an increase by 2.0%; U.S. August Retail & Food Sales Excluding-Autos rose 1.1%; August Auto Sales rose 10.6%; July Retail & Food Sales Revised to fall 0.2% from -0.1%.

NY Empire State Manufacturing Index:
New York Fed's September Manufacturing Index 18.88 versus 12.08 in August; New York Fed September New Orders 19.84 versus 13.43 in August; New York Fed September Employment fell 8.33 versus drop by 7.45 in August; New York Fed September Prices Received fell 3.57 versus a drop by 12.77 in August.

Business Inventories:
U.S. July Business Inventories fell 1.0% compared to expectations of a decrease by 1.0%.
