    Daily Market Commentary for April 22, 2009

    General Motors Corporation (GM) Chief Financial Officer Ray Young said the company does not plan on making a $1 billion debt payment due June 1 and is relying on either a successful debt-for-equity exchange or court protection to dramatically lower its outstanding debt.     Economic data released today:

    EIA Petroleum Status Report released by the Department of Energy:
    U.S. Crude Oil Stockpiles rose by 3.857 Million Barrels at 370.6 Million Barrels; U.S. Gasoline Stockpiles rose by 0.802 Million Barrels at 217.307 Million Barrels; U.S. Distillate Stockpiles rose by 2.682 Million Barrels at 142.311 Million Barrels; U.S. Refineries ran at 83.4% versus 80.4% a week ago; U.S. Crude Oil Stockpiles rose by 3.9 Million Barrels in the week compared to expectations of an increase by 2.5 Million Barrels; U.S. Gasoline Stockpiles rose by 802,000 Barrels in the week compared to expectations of a drop by 300,000 Million Barrels; U.S. Distillate Stockpiles rose by 2.7 Million Barrels in the week compared to expectations of a drop by 600,000 Million Barrels; U.S. Refineries ran at 83.4% capacity compared to expectations of an increase by 0.7 points at 81.1%.
