The United States government plans to send an additional 17,000 troops to Afghanistan in order to help stabilize the volatile country. Whether this troop surge will make a difference is yet to be seen but the increase in troops will provide a sense of security for those already in the country, citizens and soldiers alike.

Along with bolstering U.S. troop presence, the government has placed a strong focus on training Afghan troops and building up the strength of Afghanistan's army.

In your opinion, will the extra troops make a significant difference in the war and rebuilding effort, helping Afghanistan reach a level of relative stability? Or will the surge bring little more than a sense of added security?
