After being bailed out by the government with tax payer money, many big banks have turned their fortunes around & are now earning record amounts by charging overdraft fees on the same tax payers who bailed them out, kind of ironic I must say.

While people should be more responsible & not let their accounts slip below the zero line, it can be difficult to constantly monitor your account, especially when you're working hard to survive in a tough economy. To make matters worse, banks seem to be taking full advantage of those who do. For a five cent mistake you can be slapped with a $39 overdraft fee, and worse yet the bank will continue to charge a $7 or $8 fee everyday you're overdrawn. My personal opinion is: Since we (the citizens) saved these big banks, we should have some say in how they handle overdraft fees.

Surely they could at least call the customer who is overdrawn & lower the fees, that would be common courtesy to the same people who saved many of them in the first place.

I'd like to get everyone's opinion on this, how do you think banks should handle overdraft fees? Should the government step in to halt this abuse from large banks?

Thanks for reading & I'm looking forward to hearing your take on the matter :)
