Yes you can test your skills and strategies in Demo account, its useful for both new and experienced traders.

Demo account also must be used to hone skill. And we also must use the trading experience to improve skills. Even, we also can use demo account to take part in demo contest. But i don't take part in demo contest because in TenkoFx still not hold demo contest. I think it's not a problem because we still be able to use demo account to hone skills.
