    Important announcement by David Seaman ( https://twitter.com/d_seaman ) regarding the HYPER game he is working on that will bring cryptocurrency into the real world via Android and iPhone augmented reality geocaching and gaming (with official HYPER backing from myself and the rest of the team) and much more. His vision for HYPER is revolutionary and will certainly speed things up for us becoming the definitive online (and real world) gaming currency.

    60 days from today, at around 4pm Pacific, he will be buying at market rate 1,000,000 PINK's worth of HYPER (approximately 10 BTC or more). His assumption is that by that time a PINK/HYPER trading pair will exist, but if not, the 1,000,000 PINK in his possession will be first traded to a currency which can trade directly against HYPER.

    https://plus.google.com/+DavidSeaman...ts/YQcD1Vycq9K

    Here is the full announcement:
    HYPER is an electronic proof-of-stake currency traded on major exchanges. I am going to use it to test out a theory in-field over the next 6 months.

    Bitcoin and other successful cryptocurrencies including Litecoin, over time, go from arbitrary bits of data on a public distributed ledger to valuable currencies due to the "miner dynamic".

    This is not a new assertion. We all know that miners sinking time, energy costs, and hardware into mining is part of what creates the value ecosystem. This ecosystem mimics the economic processes that once gave natural rare commodities such as gold and silver their value.

    I will posit here, and prove with HYPER over the next six months, that the "miner dynamic" is only one of several ways in which a currency can be psychologically accepted and successfully capitalized by the masses.

    "Game rarity" is a second dynamic that has not been properly explored yet - things like arcade tickets and air miles are examples of game rarity-derived currency.

    After researching HYPER's past activity, their current and pending in-roads into game communities, and their ambitious massive multiplayer "virtual world" project, no other currency would work quite as well for proving this theory.

    What HYPER is doing already is creating a psychological value for players of games including Counter Strike and Zandagort (HYPER servers run both, with more games planned for inclusion). Whereas gamers used to seek "high scores" or simple reputational gain, they will soon seek HYPER - a supranational digital currency with properties altogether different from Bitcoin.

    Since HYPER is 100% proof-of-stake, every user who keeps the wallet open and running on their machine is doing their part to verify transactions and keep the network decentralized.

    HYPER pays 5% monthly interest, compounded daily. This is part of the secret sauce: too much higher, and eventually you'd see PoS centralization, which would weaken the network. Too much lower, and there is not a solid incentive for gamers who earn or win HYPER to hold onto some and grow the network's strength, as well as reduce unexpected "dumps" on the exchanges.

    This is in stark contrast to the alt coin communities which seem to be a kind of high-tech arms race to see which miners can make the most, sometimes to the detriment of long-term stakeholders and users.

    By being an interest-bearing coin that is simultaneously not subject to miner-created inflation, it is intrinsically "desirable".

    Which brings me to the announcement. We're going to speed up a natural process. What would otherwise take HYPER three to four years will only take three to four months.

    With the help of HYPER's official support (financial, as well as their marketing channels), I'm launching development of an Android / iOS HYPER app that has two levels: 1) the first level is a "HYPER locator" that shows you gamers in your area willing to sell you some of their Hyper for cash immediately 2) entering an unlock code also shows where "HYPER portals" are located- specific points where if you visit and check in from that exact location within a certain time frame, you get the Hyper that's loaded in that portal. These bounties will be pre-coded and already set aside, so that even as HYPER increases in price, the portals become even more lucrative to chase after.

    This creates a social experience, and helps gamers meet each other, with HYPER as the catalyst.

    Since I believe gaming credits will soon be a commodity, and will be a big one, it is important to be the brand people associate with something fun and challenging.

    Some of the bigger alts are pursuing ATM machines and Prypto cards - they aim to mimic the trappings of the banks they will replace, which makes a degree of sense and is absolutely the right move... for them.

    But as a gaming currency, we need to do things differently. HYPER should be fun to deal with at every moment of the currency's life cycle: obtaining it should be fun, social, and subversive -- finding it should be fun -- earning it should be fun -- and owning it is fun, because who doesn't like seeing new coins in their wallet every morning.

    The app will allow for a global ongoing scavenger hunt, since the portals/bounties are programmed, rather than paper wallets placed under a park bench.

    Further, the unlock code for the second functionality of the app is only given after the user completes an online competitive puzzle, solving "Hyperblocks" faster than other players -- during this process, the user will be asked for an email address and offered an opt-in subscription to HYPER's monthly deals and news update.

    Given how alt currencies in many ways function like ecommerce brands, it is ludicrous how few of them think as such. In 2014, obtaining an opt-in email address from a loyal user is an absolute must. And when we have 20,000, 50,000+ people on the newsletter, there is very little reason for a large merchant to say "no" to HYPER acceptance: there's a measured market of consumers, with only so many places to spend. We'll record metrics from the first few merchants to go this route, and that will be all the proof other merchants will need to enter HYPER space.

    And now, some words about commitment. 60 days from today, at around 4pm Pacific, I'll be buying at market rate 1,000,000 PINK's worth of HYPER. My assumption is that by that time a PINK/HYPER trading pair will exist, but if not, the 1,000,000 PINK in my possession will be first traded to a currency which can trade directly against HYPER.

    This creates a psychological floor for HYPER's value, allowing all of us to move beyond speculation and focus on building. This should achieve that. The last thing HYPER's developers should need to do at this point is calm the nerves of return-hungry day traders or answer the inevitable made-up FUD from troll accounts. They should be allowed to continue their work - onboarding new game communities, running games on HYPER servers, and furthering the development of HYPER's "virtual world" space strategy MMO (due for public release around June, according to their documents).

    Secondly, I have purchased a percentage of the HYPER network, and that stake is not for sale - at any price. When the market begins to realize that a significant portion of HYPER believed to be up for grabs at any moment is simply unavailable, at any rate, I think we'll see the beginnings of genuine stability.

    This is a great currency that has been a bit overlooked by the wild onslaught of new coins, each of them drain a bit of the wealth out of the market and make it harder for great coins like HYPER to achieve what they set out to do.

    With survival no longer in question, I'm very excited for HYPER (and for PINK, which I perceive as a complementary game coin - rather than competitor; HYPER's devs have no interest in pursuing the sorts of games PINK creates, and vice versa, to my knowledge).

    A higher PINK valuation will mean a larger buyback amount. And should FUD or temporary adversity affect the price of HYPER or PINK, wealth may move back and forth between the two coins speculatively until fear subsides, rather than jumping back out into BTC or fiat and permanently harming the ecosystem. This economic tweak, although experimental, was successfully pioneered by the financial cryptocurrencies Dirac and Nautilus earlier this year. I'm simply stealing a good idea and applying it to the two most promising game coins.

    If you have a background in iOS / Android app development and want to help, I would love to hear from you.

    Latest news from HYPER project:

    David Seaman's latest update about Hyper:
    https://plus.google.com/+DavidSeaman...ts/XqsFgT3mDQY
    It seems every 6 months or so a prominent Bitcoiner feels the need to come out and trash proof-of-stake.

    This is a bit like a Detroit motor executive saying electric cars are a scam. Meanwhile, they're not, and Tesla is looking more tempting every day.

    There's a similar disconnect between the Bitcoiner and reality when it comes to proof-of-work v proof-of-stake. When you look at Bitcoin's design, two things emerge:

    1) This is a really good way to transfer money; better than any fiat currency when implemented properly, hands down.

    2) This coin's economic schedule worked, and it worked the best if you happen to be an early Bitcoin miner. More and more exit points for your treasure.

    Bitcoin found monetary value through mimicry of the rarity of natural resources like gold. This is why you "mine" Bitcoin, this is why difficulty goes up, block reward halvings, etc.

    But to assume this blockchain is in any way sacred, or that the means for validating transactions and maintaining security are somehow sacrosanct, is just absolutely not true. This is the beginning of cult-like attachment. Nowhere in the code and certainly not in Satoshi's own writings will you find warnings never to improve upon the Great One's sacred proof-of-work scheme.

    And that's because even the creators of Bitcoin didn't take themselves that ****ing seriously. But Bitcoiners do. All other blockchains are a "scam," only use the original blockchain with creaking 10 minute confirmation times and 1/13th of the entire money supply owned by a complete stranger.

    What's important to note here is that consumers don't care at all about this cult worship. They'll just want a fast, affordable way to send or store value.

    So, to them, a thirty second confirmation time is better. Even if it's only psychological comfort, that is not something to dismiss lightly. And to them, being a "full user" who can take part in the monetary growth by simply staking their wallet - that's cool, in the same way that being an early Bitcoiner felt cool. You're in on it.

    The "ordinary user" on Bitcoin's network can't take advantage of that. Liquid cooling pools, ASIC chips, and Iceland data centers and solar arrays are somewhat beyond the reach of your everyday, busy consumer.

    And it's these everyday people - not r/bitcoin subscribers - who will drive cryptocurrency into the multi-trillion dollar industry we all know it will be some day.

    When I ask a HYPER user how they feel about being a part of the network itself, and earning as a result of that. The answer is normally some variation of "It's cool!"

    It may be cool. What it really is, though, is economic incentivization built into the coin itself.

    You don't have that with Bitcoin. You bought your couple coins from Coinbase, who got them from an exchange, who got them from a miner churning the things out like clockwork. So you hold it - as a rational actor - only if you believe another Tim Draper is going to come along at some point and make it rain million dollar bills, at which point your BTC will be worth more. Because if a beneficial whale doesn't come along every now and then to save the day, the Bitcoin experiment is sunk - at least from a value storage perspective. Those newly mined coins become available each and every day, creating a permanent damper on the price unless there's fresh interest.

    Bitcoin was designed this way, and the rare commodity trick works. But to suggest that's the height of cryptocurrency design is like saying the smartphones available in early 2009 were at the height of smartphone design - absurd and untrue.

    With HYPER, you have that same speculative element as with Bitcoin (value will rise if we're working on as much as we're working on), but you also have access to the coin supply. That changes the equation. Your unit earns more units. Stake in the game changes the way you interact with your currency, not through the "community" suggesting you care as Dogecoin tried, but through the algorithm actually incentivizing you to care.

    We're in talks with Xsolla, the same folks who brought Doge a payment on-roads into Twitch, and a leading game credits payment company.

    The vision is to offer a simple landing page where users can buy HYPER with a credit card or bank account. Trading BTC for HYPER on Bittrex is not user friendly. As was discussed in an internal email last night, we want HYPER to be like Apple in the sense that everything is going to be simpler than necessary.

    Staking isn't just easy. It's hassle-free and practically moron proof.

    And the devs have built a wiki (http://hypercrypto.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page) anyone can browse that shows a constantly updated menu of where you can go for help with HYPER, and which games are currently running where you can earn HYPER. Any user with an Internet connection can now get into crypto by a) playing their favorite video games or b) running the wallet software on any modern desktop or laptop.

    If the mathematical possibilities laid out by a) and b) don't give you a greedy spine tingle, you may not belong in alt currency.

    The more games we onboard, the higher the utility for a unit of HYPER.

    Other in-game currencies kind of get the enormity of this market if done right. We got that months ago, and I can say with confidence we're at a stage that no other game currency will be able to reach anytime soon. There's just too much happening, on all fronts. Economic incentive and some momentum is really all it takes to breathe life into one of these. And once it happens, it really happens - there's no reason to think Litecoin's success is even the ceiling here because in-game is so much bigger than that.

    Very pleased with the upcoming marketing plans and CoinMKT.com still has HYPER on deck for addition during their next currency offering update. This will allow institutional sized buys of the currency using a US bank wire transfer, and will also allow users to buy/sell their HYPER via PayPal account.

    When I first got involved with HYPER it was a 850 satoshi coin that was in danger of delisting. Now it's 17,081 satoshis and I know we are only just getting started.

    And someone is paying attention. The original Bitcointalk thread has been viewed nearly 100,000 times. As I originally predicted and hoped, this one could become the Swiss Army knife of in-game currencies.

    Proof-of-stake is cool. Bitcoin's marketing strength should be its business relationships and numerous fiat on-ramps, not its five year old proof-of-work.

    And proof-of-stake is ideal for game currency, because gamers need to have an incentive beyond direct speculation for hoarding. Now they do.

    News from Hyper project:

    New HYPER store: http://hyperbundle.com

    OK new wallet is out! It is a non-mandatory update but it updates the code considerably, speeds up the wallet start-up and blockchain syncing times. As the new wallet does fix numerous security issues update is recommended for all users.

    Here are Palmdetroit's updates on Github: https://github.com/palmd/Hyper/commits/master The main HYPER repo on GitHub has also been updated: https://github.com/HYPERcrypto/Hyper

    Palmdetroit and I are going to keep updating the wallet in future it's in good hands and we are going to be adding some really cool features over time. We will probably be releasing new versions once a month or so in future.

    Major updates with this wallet:

    - Updated QT version
    - Much faster wallet start-up time (10 - 20 seconds)
    - Checkpoints and much faster blockchain sync / download speed
    - Rebuilt blockchain database for faster syncing and updating
    - Fixed numerous urgent security issues
    - All those useless dlls files are gone and it's an all in one, one click client

    Here are the download links for Windows, Linux and source of the new wallet: https://github.com/palmd/Hyper/releases/tag/1.5.1

    If you use the new wallet you need to download the blockchain again as the database has been optimized for faster syncing. But you can use the bootstrap so all in all the update process only takes about 5 minutes! Make sure you ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR WALLET.DAT BEFORE STARTING!

    Instructions:

    HOWTO use new 1.5.1 Hyper client (and rebuild db)
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Mandatory to do this for 1.5.1 Hyper client (rebuild db)
    You have two options, either 1) do a full resync from scratch best but slow (can take 24 hours+) or 2)use a bootstrap fast (see below) Bootstrap ONLY works with Windows if you are building the wallet in Linux you will need to download the blockchain. No worries though it is much faster than before and should be fully synced within 24 hours!
    Warning! Never! Ever! Delete wallet.dat ! Always have backups!
    1)
    A. Back up wallet.dat or entire directory: (default) always do this when updating!
    Win c:/users/username/appdata/roaming/Hyper/
    Unix : /home/user/.Hyper
    You can find easily in windows by searching for %appdata% and then opening Hyper folder
    B. Delete all files/folders in your /Hyper/ directory above EXCEPT wallet.dat and any .conf files. DO NOT DELETE WALLET.DAT!
    B. When you are sure you backed up then delete everything above just run new client and wait for 24 hours to sync!
    2)
    A. Download Bootstrap
    B. Back up wallet.dat or entire directory: (default) always do this when updating!
    Win c:/users/username/appdata/roaming/Hyper/
    Unix : /home/user/.Hyper
    You can find easily in windows by searching for %appdata% and then opening Hyper folder
    C. Delete all files/folders in your /Hyper/ directory above EXCEPT wallet.dat and any .conf files. DO NOT DELETE WALLET.DAT!
    D. Unzip files in .zip to Hyper directory (make sure .dat files are in /Hyper/
    E. Run client and it should start syncing at the bootstrap block number, if you did something wrong it will start at block 0, so please try again or ask in forum!
    If you have feature requests / bug fixes for next HYPER wallet version please PM me or post in the thread so we can start a development roadmap for the wallet! There are more updates to be done to the codebase which is the current priority but we are also looking to hear from the community what YOU want to see in the HYPER wallet.
